In August 2012, I traveled back to Taiwan for a week to speak at at an international conference and report for Foreign Policy’s Democracy Lab website, a project led by Foreign Policy Senior Editor Christian Caryl that focuses on emerging democracies. I examined Taiwan’s transitional justice process two decades after the country ended its martial law and became a democracy. My 1,500 word article is now used as a talking point in national conferences in Taiwan about human rights and culture.

Monitored and covered breaking news, politics, natural disasters and global trends coming out of Taiwan for the newspaper’s International section.
Interviewed high-level politicians and diplomats, including a one-hour exclusive with the president of Taiwan with The Washington Post’s China Bureau Chief, Keith Richburg.
Coordinated with the paper’s China and Japan bureaus to assist in regional breaking news coverage, such as Japan’s recent earthquake and nuclear fallout.
Wrote full-length travel stories from Taiwan for the paper’s Travel section.

Helped organize, report and write a Taiwan travel guide for a special mini-magazine in Monocle’s March edition. Featured three pages of food, travel, hotels, life and business opportunities in Kaohsiung and around southern Taiwan.
